# Create your first File

> Make a short animation with your assistant, refine it in Stewdio, and export it.

Before you begin, [connect your assistant](/setup).

<Steps>
  <Step title="Describe what you want to make">
    Try this prompt:

    ```text theme={null}
    Create a Stewdio File named Hello Stewdio. Add a five-second,
    1920 by 1080 composition with a Canvas showing the words
    "Hello Stewdio" fading in over a dark background.
    Expose the text and its color as Canvas inputs so I can edit them.
    ```

    Include the size, duration, visual style, and the controls you want to adjust. If you belong to multiple organizations, tell the assistant which one should own the File.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the File">
    Ask the assistant to open **Hello Stewdio**. Use the embedded editor if your assistant supports it, or open the File in the [Stewdio web application](https://www.stewdio.ai/home/files).

    You should see the composition and the Canvas created from your prompt.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Refine the result">
    Select the Canvas and adjust the inputs exposed in the inspector. Change the text or its color, then play the composition to see the result over time.

    For a larger change, return to your assistant with a focused request:

    ```text theme={null}
    In Hello Stewdio, make the text fade in more slowly.
    Keep the composition size, duration, and colors the same.
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Export the composition">
    Select the composition and choose **Export**. Select **MP4 (H.264)**, then choose **Export video**. Keep the dialog open until the export finishes.

    See [exporting](/guides/exporting) for image formats and transparency.
  </Step>
</Steps>

You now have a Stewdio File you can return to and refine. Learn how its parts fit together in [File basics](/guides/file-basics).
